Become a true ninja by entering the pressure cooker of the silent assassin in Sushi Ninja, a fast paced arcade experience where you will test your reflexes and accuracy. The objective of your mission is to rapidly and accurately slice a variety of sushi (flying) as you prove your skills as a master of the knife. However, be warned; the perils of the dojo are just as rapid as the rewards.
Train To Be A Master Of The Slice
Why Sushi Ninja Creates Addiction. Sushi Ninja is based upon the classic fruit slicer format, but adds the lethal danger of death. Sushi pieces fly around the screen in clusters and arcs. Your task is to slice all of the eatables while avoiding all explosives. If you incorrectly slice a single item, it is immediate game over.
The tension is due to the reward-risk balance. You may opt for a defensive strategy and carefully slice each piece individually. Or, you may choose the aggressive route, and attempt to slash five pieces at once for a large combo bonus. Although the aggressive method will generate a larger number of points, the chances of accidently hitting a bomb increase.
The experience is so well-crafted to create that "one more try" addiction. The length of the runs is short, typically lasting one to three minutes. As soon as you die, you have a clear picture of what went wrong, and you feel confident that you can achieve a better result the next time. It is easy to see how quickly you can find yourself playing twenty rounds trying to get that high-score you want.
The Blade, the Boost, and the Bomb
The central gameplay element of Sushi Ninja is basic, addictive, and provides instantaneous gratification. Items of food (delicate sashimi to large maki rolls), are launched into the air and you need to utilize your mouse or finger to execute swift and accurate slicing motions. The primary objective is to maximize your combo and score by cutting as many items as possible during a single swipe.
Desktop Version:
Click and drag your mouse to slice. The speed of the swipe determines the satisfaction felt when you complete the cut. You can cut multiple items simultaneously with a single swipe, provided the path of your blade intersects with all of the items.
Mobile Version:
Swipe your finger across the screen as if you were holding a katana. The responsiveness of the touch controls make mobile play feel both natural and precise.
All of your success depends solely on your precision and ability to avoid disaster.
Slice the Sushi: For each piece of sushi that you correctly slice, you add to your score and extend the duration of your combo multiplier. The combo multiplier awards points for consecutive successful cuts of the sushi without losing a piece or touching a bomb. The longer you keep your combo active, the more points you will earn.
If you miss too many pieces of sushi, your combo will end. Additionally, if you allow three or more pieces of sushi to fall off of the screen without being sliced, the game will end. The pressure to be aggressive in cutting all of the sushi you can while maintaining focus on avoiding bombs creates the tension that makes the experience exciting.
Avoid the Bombs: Along with the edible items, there are also dangerous and highly volatile bombs dispersed throughout the screen. The most important part of the Sushi Ninja Code is: never touch a bomb. If you mistakenly slice a bomb, it will end the game immediately and result in an explosion. Any lack of concentration will be punished severely.
Bombs look distinctly different from the edible items, they are typically dark in color and menacing compared to the colorful food items. However, when the screen is filled with hundreds of items flying in various directions, it is much more difficult to identify the edible items from the deadly threats in a timely manner. Your brain needs to filter out the threats from the target in fractions of seconds.
The combination of maximizing your points and avoiding the sudden loss of the game creates an exciting decision for every single swipe. Do you attempt to cut the sushi piece flying near a bomb? Or do you opt to let it fall and break your combo, but survive?
Sushi Ninja Gameplay and Strategy
Your goals: Slice as many pieces of sushi as you can. Create a chain of consecutive slices (combos) to earn additional points. Do whatever you can to avoid slicing bombs. Keep from letting three sushi pieces drop unsliced at any time.
You begin the game by facing only a few items at a time. At the one minute mark, your screen will be chaotic with numerous items rapidly appearing and moving from various angles. Your entire experience will consist of constant swiping, tracking multiple items simultaneously and making quick decision after quick decision.
As each new level begins, the difficulty will grow gradually and continuously. With each new wave, more items will appear, the rate at which items travel will increase and there will be more strategically-placed bombs to lure you into a mistake.
Mastering Sushi Ninja Strategies
Pay attention to the trajectory of each item, rather than simply to the item itself. While inexperienced players will merely react to what is happening currently on the screen, experienced players will track the path of each object as it travels through space and make decisions regarding when to perform a slice based upon that information.
Take advantage of using longer swipes. A single swipe can cut a number of pieces of sushi, provided you time the swipe properly. This is the way you build large combinations and collect points in a hurry.
Create areas that are safe from bombs. Sometimes, the safest option is to do nothing until a bomb falls safely to the ground. Then you can take out the remaining sushi without fear of losing a life.
Prioritize survival over scoring. A 30 second session with an average score is preferable to a 10 second session where you hit a bomb while trying to maximize your points. Consistency will ultimately beat aggressive risk taking.
Find a rhythm. Players who have mastered the game will reach a point of flow, at which they are no longer consciously thinking about every slice. Their hand movements become automatic, allowing them to react faster than they could by consciously processing what is occurring on the screen.
Reaching the Top
Sushi Ninja is the ultimate test of reaction time and control. In addition to increasing the speed and quantity of items that will be thrown at you, as you advance, the game requires you to possess the foresight to predict the paths that the sushi and other items will take and the spatial awareness to use your knife to create a clear path around clusters of bombs.
Combining both speed and accuracy, the game rewards you for chaining together successful, long combos. The combination multiplier makes acceptable performances turn into legendary ones. A 10x combo on a 5-piece slice is worth exponentially more than a 5 separate slices.
Competitive Motivation
The inclusion of leaderboards provides an added layer of competitive motivation. Watching your name climb the rankings or seeing someone beat your score creates the desire to play just one more round.
